Parting is such sweet sorrow, but how much easier the goodbye if there’s a fairer than average chance the person will return. Naturally not all goodbyes are created equal. Waving someone off to war offers less certainty of return than that of your spouse of 20 years popping out for a loaf. We’d say there’s a good chance they’ll be back with a crusty white. Unless they’ve been conducting an elicit affair with the baker.

And herein lies the greater lesson. Life comes with no guarantees, even after 20 years of marriage. Especially after 20 years of marriage? Nothing’s a dead cert (except the dead part). People come and go. There’ll always be new challenges, things sent to try us.

Why waste time? Be courageous. Take that leap. Let go.
