Ireland Forever
Ireland Forever
Gaelic: Erin Go Bragh; literally, Ireland Until the End of Time.
A Victorian paste seal depicting a shamrock together with a motto of loyalty and deeply held affection for the very special place which is Ireland. Set as our classic pendant in recycled 14ct yellow gold and completed with a middy enabailer.
Why we love it
Erin Go Bragh is an anglicized spelling of the Irish language phrase (we can’t leave anything alone can we, typical, tsk!) which can be traced back to the Irish rebellion of 1798 where it was emblazoned on banners and shouted aloud as a call to arms.
Latterly the phrase has, for most, become a greeting or pleasantry or en lieu of slainte (Cheers in Irish) and is heard on the reg in mid March when we all don silly green leprechaun hats and drink more of the black stuff than is healthy. That said, the history and origins of the phrase have not been completely forgotten and the importance of freedom from British colonisation coupled with a deep love of Irish culture is still pertinent when saying the words.
Their spirit of bravery and independence, the sheer beauty of the landscapes, the warmness and humour of the people, the intangible but inherent woo woo mystical magical charm of the country, the unrivalled welcome of the Irish pub and the undisputed Eurovision Song Contest master race.
Whether you love he Emerald Isle for being your home, your heritage or purely a very understandable fondness for all things Eire, this piece is a wonderfully cheerful celebration of a magical and friendly nation. This lovely seal, which will have been produced not so very long after the uprising of 1798 is perfect for meaningfully honouring the much beloved island of Ireland on St Patrick’s Day or just all year round!
