Why we love it
The Banff Literary Society of Banff, Aberdeenshire was instituted by five local youths in 1810. The purpose of the society was to form a library and to hold meetings where essays could be read aloud, and literary topics could be discussed.
The library held an extensive collection of technical literature on farming and practical philosophy of the highest intellectual content, amongst a plethora of other literature. The library was handed over to the town at the end of the 19th century.
