Why we love it
Ready for some (what may possibly be new) learning? Read on….
This one is all about how essentially we would lay ourselves down for our kiddiewinks. Sacrifice. Selflessness.
Safeguarding the future of the familial line.
Featuring heraldic imagery of the pelican in her piety.
This is in reference to the medieval fable of the pelican drawing blood from its own breast to feed its young, representing self-sacrifice. It pecked its own chest to nourish the babies when no other vittels were present. That’s as Fierce AF in my book.
The imagery has also been used in Christian traditions as a representation of Jesus sacrifice of dying on the cross.
The pelican in her piety was notably worn by Queen Elizabeth I in the portrait ‘Elizabeth I with a pelican emblem’ painted c.1575 by Nicholas Hilliard.
