Cupid On A Mission
A beautiful seal depicting Cupid on his way somewhere laden with a pole and sack likely containing hearts (as we have seen may times in similar Cupid seals but can not be clearly be made out on this one).
The flow and movement captured in this seal is all at once incredibly skilled, joyous and peak whimsical.
To enhance this already captivating seal we set it in platinum with a closed back to allow the reflections and light play of the imagery against the metal to dance even more. The result is spectacular.
All finished with our blue sapphire enabailer.
Why we love it
The movement in this piece is unparalleled. You can practically see Cupid making his way to wherever he is going right before your eyes as the pendant shifts and the light does its work with the seal and the closed platinum back.
We’re not exactly sure what our cherub friend is up to but what is clear is that he is moving with both grace and purpose.
He’s swishing about like the best of them in all his flounce but he is equally somehow resolute and determined.
We hypothesise that his pole which has a basic knotted cloth bag attached to it as makeshift luggage (a la Dick Whittington) is full of hearts. Simply because when we have seen similar seals previously this is what he’s always carrying with him and it makes more sense than lumps of coal given he is the God of Love afterall.
And on this basis we like to think that Cupid is carrying his hearts to those that need them. He is probably going to do some most excellent matchmaking. And here at BM HQ we are always in favour of true lurve so crack on Cupid, get it done!
