But what’s it all about?

Seals are subjective but here’s what the piece says to us and why we loved it enough to make it an ingot.

The imagery speaks to the fragility of love. The care needed to sustain it. The gentle handling required for a heart to survive.

The hand is open and palm up. This riffs on trust, honesty, openness and vulnerability.

It holds the heart with gentle care.

The hand lets the heart rest, and rest easy. It is not grasping it or clinging on to it tightly. The hand allows the heart to be there whilst also allowing the heart to depart should it so wish.

Love must be freely given and must choose to stay. A heart can not and should not be ensnared or restricted for fear of it moving elsewhere.

The charm is truly a message about all the multifaceted actions and choices that must be deployed for a healthy happy and true love.

Honesty, vulnerability, trust, freedom of choice, room to just be and indeed room to grow.

It really strongly makes us think of the poem by E E Cummings, I Carry Your Heart With Me, although in that prose the heart is carried in the heart of the other, rather than in the hand. Nevertheless that’s well and truly where this motif takes us. And we think it’s very befitting.
