Georgian 6 Seal Desk Wheel
A highly sought after Georgian seal wheel in gilt metal and a mother of pearl handle. Circa 1790.
The six wax seals are all antique paste glass with motifs as follows
White: A harp with French text; Je Reponds A Qui Me Touche, (‘I Respond To Touch’);
Yellow: French Text; Votre Amitie Fait Ma Felictie, (‘Your Friendship Makes Me Happy’);
Bloodstone paste (black & red): English text; ‘Tho Lost To Sight To Memory Dear’;
Blue: A tallship with French text; Telle Est La Vie, (Such Is Life);
Black: A compass with French text; Etourdi Mais Constant, (Dizzy But True);
Purple: A devil with English text, a simple rebus seal: ‘Who The [Devil image] Can This Be From’
The wheel itself is in good functional condition and spins appropriately. The seals themselves vary in condition, please review the images to satisfy yourself. The blue seal has wear, the white seal has a small inconsequential chip and the bloodstone effect seal has a crack but still makes good imprints in hot wax.
