Hello my fellow magpies, welcome back to the mischief
There are two types of jewelry purchases: The first are the ones you decide on fairly quickly. The second are the ones that quietly take up residence in your brain and refuse to leave.
This story is very much about the second.
A few years ago, one of my clients fell completely in love with an antique intaglio I’d sourced. There was just one problem. It had sold. Now, some people would think, “Never mind. Another one will come along.” She didn’t. For the next three years, that design continued to occupy a small corner of her mind. Every now and then we’d talk about it. Every now and then we’d look for something similar but nothing ever quite compared. Which got me thinking… what if we stopped waiting and created it instead
The one that wouldn’t let her go
So that’s exactly what we did. Together, we sourced a beautiful antique sardonyx and agate pendant in 15ct gold.
Then, for the very first time in Bauble Magpie’s history, we commissioned a bespoke carving.
One side now features the original Queen Treehead design she’d fallen in love with all those years ago.
The reverse carries her monogram, KBH.
One side honouring the story that started it all.
The other making it unmistakably hers.
Reset them.
Reimagined them.
Designed entirely new jewelry around them.
But this… This is the first time we’ve taken an antique stone and given it an entirely new carved life.
It feels like the beginning of something rather exciting. Because sometimes the perfect piece doesn’t already exist. Sometimes it’s waiting to be created.
Don’t let it be the one that got away
Some pieces have a habit of lingering in your mind. If you’ve found yourself returning to the same seal more than once, consider this your sign. It may be one of our Intaglio pendants that says “I know my value.” Or a Custom love tokens that holds undeniable truths. Or one of our Signet rings that demand attention. Every now and then, a commission comes along that changes the way I think about what’s possible at Bauble Magpie. This was one of those beautiful, terrifying moments. It’s reminded me that sometimes the most meaningful pieces aren’t the ones we find, they’re the ones we create together.
And I have a feeling this is only the beginning.
With love and shiny things, always
Emma and the Bauble Magpie Team
