Why we love it
We don’t see a huge number of sardonyx intaglios but we love it when we do because the layered stone makes for a very special contrast once carved
We love the juxtaposition of the masculine and the feminine in this intaglio; the black and the white, the shield and castle, set against the feminine softness of the laurel branch and the motto’s banner
An intaglio full of perfect juxtaposition, yin and yang, strength and softness
