Why we love it
The extraordinary pietra dura craftsmanship is breathtaking.
Pietra dura, Italian for ‘hard stone’, is a term for the inlay technique of using cut and polished coloured stones to create images. This decorative art flourished in Florence, particularly in the late 16th and 17th centuries.
The overall aesthetic of these wee gems is just plain adorable. They’re basically an exquisite stone jigsaw. Sorta.
