Separated By Fate Wax Seal
An early Victorian antique wax seal featuring two weeping willows forced to be at distant by the stream that runs between them but nevertheless growing and leaning towards each other such that their branches meet and touch over the babbling brook.
The French motto reads ‘Le Penchant Nous Unit, Le Destin Nous Separe’ which translates to ‘Separated By Fate, United By Desire’. How romantic!
Why we love it
We love a bit of righteous indignation here at BM as exhibited here by these single- minded willows.
Notwithstanding their physical separation because actual river they grow towards each other their branches leaning and reaching towards each other, joining together in beautiful defiant unity over the very waterway that exists to keep them apart.
The message and meaning being that physical separation cannot stop a pair who are destined to be together, reminding us all how powerful true love is, enduring distance, obstacles placed in its path and physical separation. When two people want to be together their love will always find a way
