Restorer Of Ruins Intaglio
An exceptionally carved carnelian intaglio featuring detailed imagery of a rampant griffin in profile encircled in a belt with Latin motto ‘Instaurator ruinae’ (repairer of ruin).
Why we love it
The phrase ‘Instaurator ruinae’ is the Latin motto of Clan Forsyth. Symbolising their enduring spirit of renewal, resilience and perseverance through adversity, it also reflects their history of rebuilding and restoring what has been lost or damaged.
The griffin, with its’ body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle, symbolises strength and intelligence.
In heraldry, a belt symbolises honour and merit since it was a prestigious military item that could be stripped from a knight to signify loss of privileges or demotion. The buckled belt also symbolises strength, protection, loyalty and eternity.
