Love Conquers All Intaglio
A hand carved and unique Georgian era carnelian intaglio featuring imagery of Cupid riding a tamed lion (he’s even got a bridle on him) and holding aloft the eternal flame
Why we love it
We see this motif every so often, it is so distinctive that it is not easily missed and we love the meaning behind it
Often seen with accompanying and explanatory Latin ‘Omnia Vincit Amor’ meaning ‘Love Conquers All’
And that’s what this intaglio denotes, the all conquering nature of love, the notion that that cheeky wee love God, Cupid can tame and control the lion, the kings of beasts, even the lion is reduced to a purring, padding, pussycat when Cupid has crossed his path
And as a final flourishing salute we see Cupid holding aloft the eternal flame symbolising the never ending nature of true lurrrrve
And that’s it, that’s the message, nothing is stronger than love.
Love wins.
Every single time.
Make it sing
