I Bleed For My Country
Large citrine intaglio
Imagery of a lion holding a crown, on top of a shield, with the Latin inscription pro patria sanguis (I bleed for my country)
Excellent antique condition with light surface wear – some tiny nibbles to the edge of the shield visible under magnification, which do not detract from the beauty of the piece
Why we love it
Clearly the seal of a warrior or combatant, evidenced by the lion rampant (rearing), symbolising fearlessness, determination and courage, paired with a motto effectively pledging allegience to king / queen and country.
More of a lover than a fighter? Think of this as a talisman of peace and hope. A sign of empathy, for all countries and people everywhere. The idea of bleeding in the sense of an expression of affinity. Of solidarity.
A heraldic nod to give peace a chance (bed-in, a la John and Yoko, entirely optional).
The perfect talisman for the empaths among us.
