Cupid’s Wild Ride
An Antique clear paste seal to mimic rock crystal depicting Cupid riding an out of control, galloping donkey (do donkeys gallop?!) accompanied by the overarching motto ‘These Are My Subjects’
A rare and highly sought after Tassie seal
Why we love it
We all love a love seal, am I right?
But this one gives more bang for the buck in Emma’s mind with its observation, humour and whimsy
Depicted we see our favourite love God Cupid, clinging on for dear life on a donkey mid gallop. Cupid is brandishing a whip, seemingly in an attempt to bring the bonkers donk donk under control
But what’s it all about Emma?
Well. The message here is that love is wild, untameable and just a wee bit crackers
We know that Cupid governs love. We know that humans love. In this seal cheeky Cupid is equating a person in love as a beserk donkey. He’s riding it, he’s hanging on in there and he’s doing his damnedest to get a handle on the situation, to bring it under control. But there is an acceptance that it ain’t going so well
And all this adds up to the resigned but funny comment that effectively people in love are blumming impossible. Love does not follow rules. Love is not controllable. And Love is a wild ride.
Amen to that Emma’s says
Emma recommends that this seal would be best served as a closed back pendant and that any metal choice would would spectacularly well
