Lyre & Wheat – Intaglio
A small amethyst intaglio with imagery of a lyre and ears of wheat.
In Greek mythology, Hermes is said to have created the lyre, first using the instrument to steal fifty of Apollo’s prize cattle and subsequently offering it to him when he became angry. The lyre is now an historic attribute to the god of music and prophecy, symbolising wisdom and moderation.
Wheat is often called the staff of life, a long standing symbol of fertility, bounty and the golden days of harvest.
