Clever Woman Wax Seal
A large oval deep red paste glass seal depicting a classical woman stood at a plinth or lectern, holding a scroll.
Likely to be a depiction of the Greek Goddess Clio, one of the nine muses, who is most commonly depicted with scrolls and is the Goddess of History
Why we love it
We love this one so much because it depicts a classical woman unarguably engaged in the noble pursuit of intellect. She is all at once, graceful, elegant and feminine whilst equally commanding confident and authoritative
Her posture speaks to confidence and composure. Under the loupe it appear to Emma that she has a mouth slightly open, like she’s giving a speech, which dovetails with her being stood at a plinth or lectern. She holds scrolls, information, knowledge, stuff she’s studied but the scroll is closed, because she knows the content by heart
This seal speaks to an educated woman in a position of authority, standing and speaking, sharing her knowledge and knowing full well she has earned every single part of that
This would be a perfect talisman for any woman who has educated herself and risen to a position of authority under her own steam
