The Further, The Tighter Wax Seal
A large Georgian era clear paste seal mimicking rock crystal
Featuring imagery of a tallship headed out to sea together with two swallows, one perched on the clifftop, the other flying off with the ship. The swallows carry a rope between them and in the centre of the rope is a lover’s knot with overarching French motto ‘le plus loin…. le plus serre’ which means ‘the further the tighter’ and is an abbreviated version of the phrase ‘the further the distance, the tighter the knot’
Why we love it
The imagery, there’s a lot going on and we love that and the metaphor of the lover’s knot becoming ever tighter as the birds fly further apart. So sentimental, so determined, so resilient
