Star Seal

An antique, facet back paste glass seal featuring a five pointed star in the most gorgeous shade of deep purple.

Set in a vintage mount crafted in 9ct yellow gold.

Stars have served as guides for navigation for thousands of years and are one of the earliest symbols of guidance, therefore are often considered to be protective. The five pointed star is a common ideogram in modern culture, although it’s comparatively rare in classical heraldry. The five pointed star (or mullet) was however preferred in English and Scottish heraldry from an early time (e.g. circa 1270 in the Dering Roll, the oldest English roll of arms surviving in its original form). Notably introduced for the flag of the United States in the Flag Act of 1777, they subsequently became more widely used in the 19th century.
