Staff of Life

Large carnelian intaglio featuring an heraldic shield with three wheatsheaves

Why we love it

Wheatsheaves, or garbs, appear regularly on shields and coats of arms, signifying the beneficence and admirable hospitality of the bearer. In other words, someone who throws the best parties.

Given the three sheaves featured on this seal, we’re guessing the owner loved a good ole splurge. Perhaps not in the Jay Gatsby league of lavish lasciviousness (we’re betting he’d have at least double the amount of sheaves on his shield) but a booty shaking shindig at his namesake Jay-Z’s crib perhaps.

Wheat also symbolises the fertility of the earth. Abundance. Renewal. Rebirth. A reminder of the cyclical nature of life.

Wear this as a celebration of being alive. Kick off those shoes, crank up the tunes. Nothing lasts forever but a banging party helps your troubles fade into the background, if only for a little while. And that’s not nothing!
