No-one Provokes Me With Impunity

A sizeable rock crystal intaglio with deep facet back featuring detailed imagery of a thistle and Latin text ‘Nemo me impune lacesset’ (no one provokes me with impunity). Gothic initials, possibly CCIHG (very difficult to read).

‘Nemo me impune lacessit’ is Scotland’s national motto and was the Latin motto of the Royal Stuart dynasty of Scotland from at least the reign of King James VI. The motto is often translated into the Scots ‘Wha dare meddle wi me’ and loosely translates as ‘no one can harm me unpunished’.
